CIF is customer index file of customer which forms the basis for opening a account. A CIF which is a master file having all details of customer which can have a number of accounts attached to it and thus it helps the Banks and customers both in not obtaining the KYC documents for each account. Whenever KYC becomes due it is updated at one place i.e. CIF and all accounts are not required to be given KYC documents separately.
